Bénédicte Alliot, who holds a Ph.D. in English studies, was a lecturer before turning to cultural action and diplomacy.
She served as director of the Institut français in South Africa and cultural attaché at the French Embassy in India, where she co-organized several photography events before heading the Cultural Seasons department at the Institut français in Paris and overseeing the organization of numerous festivals between different countries and France.
In 2016, Ms. Alliot became managing director of the Cité internationale des arts, one of the world's largest research and creative residency centers, simultaneously hosting 325 artists.
Since 2017, the Cité has been rethinking its hospitality mission, opening up to non- or under-represented scenes while developing special programs for artists in exile. The Cité promotes artists through a dense program focusing on solidarity and inclusion. Ms. Alliot sits on many award juries.
